London 1896 Lectures and Discourses NATURE AND MAN ========================================================================= The modern idea of nature includes only that part of the universe that is manifested on the physical plane. That which is generally understood to be mind is not considered to be nature. Philosophers endeavouring to prove the freedom of the will have excluded the mind from nature; for as nature is bound and governed by law, strict unbending law, mind, if considered to be in nature, would be bound by law also. Such a claim would destroy the doctrine of free will; for how can that be free which is bound by law? The philosophers of India have taken the reverse stand. They hold all physical life, manifest and unmanifest, to be bound by law. The mind as well as external nature, they claim, is bound by law, and by one and the same law. If mind is not bound by law, if t

=============================================================================== Wednesday, 16 Aug 2023 05:30. Take the First Step :  BG : Chapter 1 ================================================================================== The Gita begins with a chapter on the Yoga of Arjuna’s despondency or Vishaad Yoga. Its backdrop is the Mahabharata war with both armies facing each other. Arjuna wants to survey the scene of war. He requests the Lord to position his chariot in the middle of the battlefield. Faced with his family on both sides, his dilemma begins. His emotions get the better of him and he is confused about his duties. This is our problem… the problem of all humanity and Arjuna is our representative. Literally the title of the chapter - Vishaad Yoga means the Yoga of sorrow. All sorrow would not qualify for this title, because per se, sorrow is not yoga. Only that sorrow which, yokes us to or propels us towards Bhagwan, our goal, is yoga. It is that grief which ignites in us a

Vijay Rath : ======================================================================== The obstacle to sustaining a positive thought is, of course, a negative thought, like: a) It can’t be done b) I did it once but I can’t do it again c) Once it happened by luck. I didn’t think I could have done it. Therefore, the importance of Satsang – to associate with positive people, positive thoughts and become positive. Citing an episode from the Ramayana, Swamiji said that, after joining Lord Rama, Vibheeshana was temporarily disheartened looking at Ravana’s greater forces. It is then that Shri Rama discoursed on the Vibheeshana Geeta. Rama described His chariot as a Vijay Rath – which is what we need to be successful in all aspects of life. ======================================================================= The two wheels of the Vijay Rath are Sauraj and Dheeraj: 1.Sauraj is valour or fearle

Chinmaya Mission   The Chinmaya Yuva Kendra group was established to foster contemplation among the youth through weekly online classes like "Seeking Culture." The 2023 Chinmaya Mission Seeking Culture Retreat marked the inaugural annual Cleveland CHYK retreat, uniting young adults in person to explore self-awareness and build community. In under 48 hours, participants absorbed lessons on authentic joy, purposeful action, aligning personal goals with the collective good, and transitioning from theory to practice. The event featured insights from Vivek ji and Shankar ji, meditation sessions, discourses, and dialogues. Guided by the Jeevan Sutrani, the retreat employed scriptures to chart a meaningful course towards unveiling true selves and sacred aspirations. The retreat began with an opening ceremony, acquainting CHYKs with the concept of seeking culture. Shankar ji then led a Q&A session based on the Jeevan Sutrani. Discussion groups provided a platform for participants
