01/01/2017. What is to be avoided is not the 'world' outside. In the impulse of the #moment, in a rising tide of disgust, at some specific failure, people often renounce in a hurry and run away from #life. Such people, without exception, come to live in regret, suffering endless mental agony, arising out of their physical privations. The exhaustion and fatigue suffered by them in this subjective storm is the source of all worldly sorrows. This storm is in the #mind, which they will carry wherever they go. What has to be changed is the mind, not the environment.

01/01/2017. Molding yourself at every step and using your inner specialties and virtues is the hidden self-effort required .This is the foundation of achieving success inspite of difficult circumstances and difficult people standing in our way.

01/01/2017. Let the New Year lift you up higher on the scale of spiritual evolution. Let it be a year to prove that God’s gift to you has not been in vain. Let it be a year to prove yourself worthy of this great gift of human status. God speed you towards this onward ascent, towards that pinnacle point of God-experience, of Satchidananda Consciousness, of Illumination and Enlightenment. This is my sincere prayer at the feet of Almighty, and at the feet of beloved and worshipful Guru Maharaj, who has brought into us this great awareness that we are inherently Divine.

01/01/2017. Live in the spirit of the Vedantic formulae. This is a potent, easily available medicine that lies at your command, that is very close to you, that is within easy access or approach. Doctors' bills and money can be saved. This will give you Self-realisation as well." Believe me. Give up doubting. I assure you, my dear brother! Thou art not this perishable body. Thou art the immortal, all-pervading Soul. Tat Twam asi-Thou art That. Rejoice in the Satchidananda Atman within and become a Jivanmukta in this very birth.

01/01/2017. The spiritual life, on the contrary, proceeds directly by a change of consciousness, a change from the ordinary consciousness, ignorant and separated from its true self and from God, to a greater consciousness in which one finds one's true being and comes first into direct and living contact and then into union with the Divine. For the spiritual seeker this change of consciousness is the one thing he seeks and nothing else matters.

01/01/2017. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and everything shall be added unto you." This is the one great duty, this is renunciation. Live for an ideal, and leave no place in the mind for anything else. Let us put forth all our energies to acquire that which never fails--our spiritual perfection. If we have true yearning for realization, we must struggle, and through struggle growth will come. We shall make mistakes, but they may be angels unawares.

01/01/2017. Have compassionate love for others but keep it secret; do not make a display of it or talk a out it. If your desires are fulfilled, do not be elated and if you are frustrated do not be disappointed. The elation may be deceptive; it should be checked, for initial joy may end in finial grief. After all, whatever happens YOU remain unaffected, just as you are.

01/01/2017 A man must work. Only then can he see God. One day, in an exalted mood, I had a vision of the Haldarpukur. I saw a low-caste villager drawing water after pushing aside the green scum. Now and then he took up the water in the palm of his hand and examined it. In that vision it was revealed to me that the water cannot be seen without pushing aside the green scum that covers it; that is to say, one cannot develop love of God or obtain His vision without work. Work means meditation, japa, and the like. The chanting of God's name and glories is work too. You may also include charity, sacrifice, and so on.

25/12/2016. Of the many channels through which our mental energies get dissipated, the maximum wastage pours out through the constant ever-dripping leakage – the gaping holes created by worry, anxiety, tension and excitement. These never ceasing moods loot the life forces in us and so they plunder our strength and joy. Destroy the robbers. Let us conserve our energies by an intelligent reorientation of our mental attitudes towards action.

Further, all the various forms and modes of being that we behold, are they not expressions of my Beloved? For there is none save Him. He is smaller than the smallest, and greater than the greatest.”

25/12/2016. “Women have proved throughout the centuries in Indian History that they have the courage, the vision, and the intelligence needed to dive into the depths of spiritual science and discipline. Maithreyi, Meera, Gargi, Sulabha, Choodala, Mahadevi, Aandal are shining examples of mighty heroines in the spiritual realms.”

25/12/2016. In watching our karma, our actions are the easiest to watch and check. Watching our words requires some practice. It is watching and correcting our thoughts, that needs maximum effort, atleast initially until it becomes a habit.

25/12/2016. "If you see a human being, you get from him what a human being has to give. If you see a teacher, you get a teacher. If you see your Guru, you get a Guru. If you see in him God, you get God."

25/12/2016. Dirt is matter out of place. Weed is a plant out of place. Nuisance is action out of place. Even those things, acts or words which are normally good and useful become bad, useless and even harmful when they are out of place, time and circumstance. Knowledge of this fact is an essential part of wisdom.

25/12/2016. Be tolerant. Be pure. Be simple. Be humble. This is the way of a new life. This is the way of spiritual life. Attachment to external objects, lack of faith in spiritual value and non-discrimination between right and wrong, give rise to all evils and sufferings. It is impossible to satisfy all human wants because with every attempt to satisfy them, new wants arise. So it is wiser to decrease your wants by contentment and knowledge of Truth.

25/12/2016. Always discriminate--your body, your house, the people and the world are all absolutely unreal like a dream. Always think that the body is only an inert instrument. And the Atman within is your real nature.

25/12/2016. You are the constant illumination that lights up both the experiences and the void. It is like the theatre light that enables you to see the threatre, the actors and the play while the play is going on ; but also remains alight and enables you to say that there is no play on when it is all finished.

25/12/2016. If there is butter, there must be buttermilk also. If you think of butter, you must also think of buttermilk along with it; for there cannot be any butter without buttermilk. Just so, if you accept the Nitya, you must also accept the Lila. It is the process of negation and affirmation. You realize the Nitya by negating the Lila. Then you affirm the Lila, seeing in it the manifestation of the Nitya. One attains this state after realizing Reality in both aspects: Personal and Impersonal. The Personal is the embodiment of Chit, Consciousness; and the Impersonal is the Indivisible Satchidananda.

The self-effort initiated and performed in the past becomes in due time the destiny (prarabdha) of the present. Thus the present was carved by our thoughts and actions in the past. If the present is ordered by our past, the logic being consistent, the activities initiated today will yield their fruits in the future; that is, the self-effort of today will mature as the destiny of tomorrow.

Humans can develop up to sixteen units of life. When we die we become more powerful in some way. We go between nine and ten units of life. This is strange, but true. That is why ancestors are worshiped. The moment this body drops, the spirit has become free, without boundaries, and nothing can stop it. The spirit moves around freely. If it is bound in the body, you have only eight units of life, you can only reach out to some. When you have nine units, you have a little more power, but if you die, then you have access to the ninth and tenth units, so you gain much more access to the planet. That is why ancestors have the capacity to bless you. They have more ‘life’ than you, because their spirit, freed from the limited body, can know; can cognize; can bless you. You can feel their presence. So when you pray to them, they can grant you certain boons. They are able to bestow unto you to whatever extent they are powerful. Ancestral worship can be found from China to Latin American countr

we are aware that the pace of the modern world is not always compatible with traditional ways of life; if you are unable to adhere strictly to all of the practices presented, try to do a few on a regular basis. Regular practice is the very foundation of a spiritual life. All these years of our lives the world has been a tangible reality and God an abstract idea. These practices will cultivate an awareness of God in our daily life.

What is life-breath is really an aspect of the Universal, all-pervasive Energy that functions continuously; it is He in one of His forms  He Who is Truth Consciousness, revealing Himself in this mode.

The Mother is held as the object of affectionate reverence in Indian Culture. She is the home-maker, the first teacher of the child, the person who lovingly transmits the culture of this ancient land to its heirs in their most formative years. The mother and the father are the first examples in social behavior that the child sees and learns to imitate. They should teach Bhakthi and Prapatthi (adoration of God and surrender to the Highest); they should be embodiment of Shanti and Prema (equanimity and love). Thus, they should aid in the spiritual awakening of the child.

184. Swami Udit Chaithanya.

Loving others is only possible when we love ourselves and loving ourselves means that since we are our own best friend first, we take care that our thoughts, words and actions are not only right but extremely perfect, which can only happen when we truly love ourselves.

"When you want to become a master or a guru, what do you have to master? Your own senses. That's called 'master'. Master of you. Mastership is control over your own lust, anger, greed, hatred, jealousy, envy, fear. These are the seven basic enemies. Only when you can conquer these basic enemies are you a master, a guru."

The teaching of the Yoga-Vasishtha emphasises that when there is perception of an object by the seer orobserver, there has to be pre-supposed the existenceof a consciousness between the subject and the object. If this conscious connecting link were not to be, there would be no perception of existence. There cannot be a consciousness of relation between two things unless there is a consciousness relating the two terms and yet standing above them. The study of the perceptional situation discloses the fact that the subject and the object are phases of a universal consciousness.

Life's end is unseen ; in fact, it has no end. The body has an end. Life cannot have death. When one attains Self-realisation life merges into Cosmic Life and is freed from the labour of building rest-houses for itself. It is this immortal character of Life that is reflected in every action of man. Even when one wants to end his life, all that he wishes to do is to put an end to a state of affairs which Life resents in the unconscious feeling that after life's departure from the present body, it will get a better one more suited to its desires and ambitions.

179. Sri Aurobindo

“It is true that the subliminal in man is the largest part of his nature and has in it the secret of the unseen dynamism which explain his surface activities. But the lower vital subconscious which is all that this psycho-analysis of Freud seems to know, - and of that it knows only a few ill-lit corners, - is no more than a restricted and very inferior portion of the subliminal whole... to begin by opening up the lower subconscious, risking to raise up all that is foul or obscure in it, is to go out of one's way to invite trouble.”

178. Swami Vivekananda

All that is real in me is God; all that is real in God is I. The gulf between God and human beings is thus bridged. Thus we find how, by knowing God, we find the kingdom of heaven within us.

"Just as the big banyan tree sprouts from a tiny seed, so do the divas (individual souls) and the whole universe with name and form sprout up from the subtle samskaras (mental impressions or tendencies continuing from previous lives)."

176. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

One should not harbour malice toward any person or any opinion. The believers in the formless God and the worshippers of God with form are all, without exception, going toward God alone. The Jnani, the yogi, the bhakta-all, without exception, are seeking Him alone. The follower of the path of knowledge calls Him 'Brahman'. The yogi calls Him 'Atman' or 'Paramatman'. The bhakta calls Him 'Bhagavan'. Further, it is said that there is the Eternal Lord and His Eternal Servant.

Stones have one unit of life. Water has got two units of life. Fire has three units of life. Air has four units of life. Space has five units of life. Trees have six units of life. Animals have seven units of life. Human beings have eight units of life, and are known as, ashtavasu. Superhuman blossomed beings, who do extraordinary work, whether it be very good or very bad, have in nine units of life.

“Egoless work is full of beauty, for it is not prompted by a desire for self-gratification. So long as the knots that constitute the ego are not unravelled, even though you intend to act impersonally, you will get hurt, and this will produce a change in the expression of your eyes and face, and be apparent in your whole manner.”

172. Sathya Sai.

“Woman is neither meant to surpass man, nor to be trampled under his foot. She should stand as his equal, his companion in his joys and sorrows of life,” Baba says.

A beautiful aspect of our lives which we sometimes do not give adequate importance to is the need for taking care of our attitude towards everyone and how we look at each one. They say your attitude for someone should not only be positive but ever-positive i.e. continuously positive.

"The subconscious is only one small fraction of the mind that we used in day-to-day life. Beyond it is super-conscious awareness, its powers far beyond our understanding. In the higher aspect of life, you must depend entirely on the super - conscious, not the subconscious or conscious mind."

The 'Advaita' of Sankara is not so much the assertion of oneness as the negation of duality, as the name of his system suggests. God is not one or two or three, for He is above numerical affirmation. He is not anything that we can think of, but, however, He does not involve in any difference; hence He is 'Advaita', non-dual.Such is the cautious name of Sankara's system of philosophy.

167. Swami Chinmayananda.

It is the ‘ego-sense’ in us, the Hindu scriptures say, which is the source of all these streams of mental drain. The ego or individuality is but a bundle of memories of the past, anxieties for the future and excitement in the present. When the ego is surrendered at the altar of an ideal, religious or secular, the flowing outlet of dissipation will be halted.

166. Swami Sivananda

God becomes man. Man will become God again. God plus desire is man. Man minus desire is God. There is no other means of knowing the Truth than one’s own intuition or Brahmakara Vritti, without which we can have no conception of it. One directly attains the knowledge of Truth or Brahman through his own thinking, reflection, meditation and one’s experience. Satchitdananda is the best possible definition of God, Brahman or the Absolute.

165. Sri Aurobindo

India is the meeting place of the religions and among these Hinduism alone is by itself a vast and complex thing, not so much a religion as a great diversified and yet subtly unified mass of spiritual thought, realization and aspiration.

Your Atman is the support of the universe whose support do you stand in need of? Wait with patience and love and strength. If helpers are not ready now, they will come in time. Why should we be in a hurry? The real working force of all great work is in its almost unperceived beginnings.
